Who is this speaking?
I suspect that Americans have fewer illusions about elections than the media make us think. That's why participation is usually so poor, relative to other "democracies". The US election with a high level of voting is the exception, and not the rule. MId-term and primary elections have even lower participation. Elections, like just about everything else, have become a TELEVISED narrative.
