The former claims that witches and one-eyed cannibals exist, the ther claims that outer space exists, that space travel is possible, that Earth is a sphere, and that artificial intelligence can be autonomous. And perhaps A Space Odyssey is the bigger fantasy, because it also claims that Earth was hostile to life, human life especially, and that instead of God a large crystal, possibly radioactive crystal, caused apes to evolve into humans.

Many things seem to indicate that humans came here from an "alien" environment. Why do we wear clothing in seasons where it's not required? Why do we build shelters and cities? From studying Hobbes and Rousseau, it's clear there were never any "noble savages" living harmoniously in a "state of nature"; but rather we came into a hostile environment. And adapted accordingly, or failed to survive.

rthur C. Clark (1917–2008) wrote many unpopular novels, but, miraculously, he became famous for writing the sci-fi novel, 2001: A Space Odyssey, which NASA’s director helped to promote.
Like its namesake, The Odyssey, A Space Odyssey is a childish fantasy. In The Odyssey, the hero must overcome fantastical monsters and dangers; in A Space Odyssey a scientist must overcome HAL 9000, a form of artificial intelligence. Both a full of obvious fictions.
